Print Before You Go
✅ Valid Government-Issued Photo ID
Florida driver's license, state ID card, or passport. Must be current and not expired. Out-of-state IDs are usually accepted but check with the dealer first.
✅ Proof of Income (2–4 Recent Pay Stubs)
Your two most recent pay stubs work best. If self-employed: 3 months of bank statements or a signed letter from a client. If on SSI/disability/pension: award letter or bank statement showing regular deposits. Cash income may also be accepted with a letter from an employer.
✅ Proof of Florida Address (2 Documents)
Most dealers want two forms: utility bill (electric, water, cable), bank or credit card statement, lease or mortgage agreement, or mail from a government agency. Must show your current address and be recent (within 30–60 days).
✅ Down Payment (Cash Preferred)
Have your down payment ready — typically $500 to $2,500+ in Florida. Cash is preferred at most BHPH dealers. Some may accept cashier's checks, money orders, or debit cards. Call ahead to confirm accepted payment methods.
✅ Proof of Auto Insurance (or Ability to Get It)
Florida requires full coverage insurance on BHPH vehicles. You can often get a same-day insurance quote from Progressive, State Farm, GEICO, or a local broker. Some dealers work with insurance agents on-site. The vehicle VIN is needed for the policy.
✅ 3–5 Personal References
Bring a list of 3–5 people who know you well — friends, family members, or coworkers. Include their full name, relationship to you, and phone number. References should NOT be living at your same address.
✅ Working Phone Number
A valid cell phone or landline that the dealer can reach you at. This is used for follow-up calls and payment reminders. Some dealers verify the number on the spot.
Optional: Trade-In Vehicle + Title
If you want to trade in your current vehicle, bring the vehicle itself and the title (or proof you're paying off the loan). If you still owe money, bring the payoff amount from your lender.

Pro Tips for Florida BHPH Visits

📞 Call Ahead

Call the dealer before visiting to confirm what specific documents they require. Some dealers have different requirements or may pre-approve you by phone.

📋 Bring Extras

Bring more documents than you think you need. Extra bank statements, pay stubs, or a backup reference can prevent delays or a second trip.

💵 Bring Cash

Cash is accepted everywhere and avoids potential card processing issues. If bringing a large amount, consider a cashier's check from your bank instead.

🔍 Inspect the Vehicle

Look under the hood, test drive, and if possible have a trusted mechanic inspect the vehicle before signing. BHPH vehicles are usually sold as-is.

📖 Read Before You Sign

Read every page of your contract before signing. Understand your total loan cost, interest rate, payment schedule, late fees, and repossession policy.

🕐 Set Aside Enough Time

A BHPH purchase can take 2–4 hours. Come with enough time to test drive, review paperwork, and not feel rushed into signing anything.
